Maryville University was founded way back in 1872 in St. Louis, Missouri. It started as a school, then became a junior college, and finally got upgraded to a college in 1923, known as Maryville College of the Sacred Heart. In 1968, it became a school for both boys and girls. By 1991, it officially became a university, offering more advanced education. Maryville University is approved by the Higher Learning Commission.
About 10,200 students attend Maryville University. It has six colleges and schools offering a wide range of programs for bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees. Over 90 degrees are available to students from all across the US and 58 other countries. There are also more than 30 online programs available. Almost all students (93%) get some financial aid, and classes usually have around 15 students each. Most of the teachers (90%) have a Ph.D. or other highest degrees.
Besides classes, Maryville University has sports teams called the Saints. They play in competitions, including the popular NCAA Division II level. There’s also a big library with lots of books and other resources.

Maryville University is making some cool changes to its campus! They’re using new technology and fixing up classrooms, hangout spots, and sports areas.
They just announced they’re teaming up with KEAT Properties and Keeley Properties to build a new sports arena close to campus. This arena will be used for lots of things like learning, sports, and video game competitions. It’s going to be big, fitting up to 3,000 people!
Dr. Mark Lombardi, who’s the boss at Maryville, says they’ve got really good video game teams that have won championships many times. People all over the world know them! The new arena will let local fans watch video game contests and also see basketball, wrestling, and volleyball games.

NCAA Sports Will Be Added to Maryville
Maryville University now has more sports options with the addition of menโs volleyball and womenโs field hockey. They now offer a total of 25 sports through the NCAA. Menโs volleyball started playing in Spring 2022, while womenโs field hockey began in Fall 2022. Eligibility & Entry requirements at Maryville
Maryville University wants students to have at least a 2.5 GPA to get into their bachelor’s degree programs. They don’t require you to take standardized tests, but you might need to if it’s needed for your specific program.
If English isn’t your first language, you can show your English skills by taking one of these tests:
- IELTS: You need a score of 6.0 or higher.
- ESL Language Center: You need to reach level 112 at the ELS center and get at least a 2.5 grade.
